Efficacy of guided bone regeneration (deproteinized bovine bone + collagen membrane) in the treatment of deep infrabony defect: a case report

1. Momir Stevanovic, Univerzitet u Kragujevcu, Srbija, Fakultet Medicinskih Nauka,, Serbia

Aim:
The primary goal of the periodontal treatment presents complete regeneration of periodontal tissues.
Case report:
A 44 year-old patient came to our clinic for the treatment of severe periodontal disease. Clinical examination revealed 12mm deep infrabony defect between distal side of left upper lateral incisor and mesial side of canine (Figure 1). The operative procedure started after local anaesthesia consisting of 2% lidocaine with adrenaline 1:80 000 (Xylonor®, Septodont, France) was applied. The incision was intrasulcular and full thickness mucoperiosteal flaps at both vestibular and palatal sides were raised in order to expose entire infrabony defect. All granulation tissue was removed from infrabony defect and the roots were completely scaled and planed by hand and ultrasonic instruments.
After infrabony defect debridment, the defect was filled with deproteinized bovine bone (BioOss®) (Figure 2) and covered with collagen membrane (Geistlich®) (Figure 3). The mucoperiosteal flap was sutured primarly with interrupted sutures. The wound healed uneventfully. After 6 months, reentry was done and significant bone regeneration was observed (Figure 4).
Conclusion:
Guided bone regeneration (GBR) presents effective treatment of deep infrabony defects.
Key words: infrabony defect, collagen membrane, deproteinized bovine bone
